Wine Region of the Month ...

- Virginia - Grapes have been planted there since the early settlers came to Jamestown in 1607, making the first wine into the new World from indegenous grapes. Thomas Jefferson was given full credit for importing fine French wines to his estate in Monticello. Successful wines are now made in Virginia made from Norton, Touriga, Petit Verdot and Viognier.

Le Bas-Armagnac ...

"Le Bas-Armagnac"? Doesn't sound very familiar to you ? well , I guess it is time to travel across the Atlantic.

Welcome to Eauze, a small town in the west of Gers (Southwest of France), driving towards Villeneuve-de-Marsan (Landes) you are entering into the "Heart" of Bas-Armagnac.

Probably one of the best Eau-de-Vie on the planet and for sure the most unknown, because it is made by very small producers and sold locally and of course the best vintages are sold well in advance or you must be part of the family ...

Bas-Armagnac is based on a sandy soil and distilled from the wine usually made from a blend of grapes with Ugni Blanc and Colombard. The Eau-de-Vie is then aged in oak barrels for couple of years.

The liquor must be served in large glasses before diner (so the risidual alcohol vapor disappears) and then enjoyed after diner.

Art of Wine & Art du Vin is proud to promote and sell the following Bas-Armagnac:
